Volunteer
Volunteers help power everything we do. From serving meals, helping out in the kitchen, or participating in special events, your time ensures our Guests find warmth, support, and community.
Youth Volunteers
Young people play an important role in supporting The Hoboken Shelter and helping our neighbors in need. Volunteering is a great way for students to learn about service, build leadership skills, and make a positive impact in the community.
Age Guidelines
- Volunteers ages 14 and older may volunteer independently at The Hoboken Shelter.
- Volunteers under 14 are welcome to participate with an adult chaperone. A parent, guardian, teacher, or group leader must remain present while youth volunteers are serving.
Volunteer Opportunities at the Shelter for Children
Youth volunteers and families can assist with a variety of activities that help support our daily programs and operations. Depending on the day, youth volunteers may help with:
• Preparing or serving meals
• Assisting with special events
• Supporting staff with special projects like preparing mailings and newsletters
Off-Site Volunteer Projects for Children
If you are unable to volunteer on-site, there are many meaningful ways students and youth groups can help from home, school, or within their own community.
- Grab-and-Go Sandwiches
Prepare individually wrapped sandwiches for drop-off at the Shelter. These grab-and-go meals help us feed neighbors experiencing food insecurity.
- Utensil Kits
Assemble small meal kits with plastic utensils and napkins for distribution with Shelter meals.
- Community Outreach
Help spread the word about upcoming Shelter events by hanging flyers around your town, school, or on community bulletin boards.
