The social media outlets supported by the Hoboken Shelter assist in fulfilling our mission to support individuals in need of housing in the Hoboken community.
The Hoboken Shelter Social Media Policy
Social media is defined in this policy as any web application, site, or account created and maintained by the Shelter which allows users to share or obtain information.
The Hoboken Shelter’s staff will create the content of its social media accounts. The Shelter's social media will promote positive interaction with community members to foster an educational and learning atmosphere.
These guidelines supplement and do not replace existing Hoboken Shelter policies.
General Policy
The Hoboken Shelter does not collect, maintain or otherwise use the personal information stored on any third-party site in any way other than to communicate with users on that site unless users grant permission.
Comments and postings from the public are allowed but Shelter staff review posts for content appropriateness. Shelter staff reserves the right to review all comments and postings and delete comments inconsistent with Shelter guidelines. Shelter staff reserves the right to block any person who posts such comments or other material from the Shelter’s social media sites when it is observed that they are violating the policies contained herein. Comments or postings that fall within any of the following categories will be deleted by Shelter staff. They may result in a ban on additional content by any individual who runs afoul of these guidelines:
- Obscene, sexist, homophobic, racist, or otherwise bigoted content.
- Harassing comments or postings against Shelter staff or other social media users. Harassing comments or postings that include offensive or obscene statements or images, threatening physical harm toward another person, and engaging in behavior with the sole intent of harassing another person.
- Libelous statements.
- Posting plagiarized or copyrighted material without permission or authority from the copyright holder upon request of the copyright holder.
- Private, personal information of another person without appropriate consent or authority. Comments, postings, or hyperlinks not related to the content created by the Shelter staff.
- Advertisements and solicitations not expressly permitted by the Shelter
- Photos, videos, or other images fall into the above categories.
- Politically-themed comments, or comments that seemingly endorse a political party, candidate, or platform. The Hoboken Shelter does not endorse candidates.
The Shelter recommends against posting personal information to our social media platforms and is not responsible for personal information patrons post about themselves.
Any personal information, photos, or other media posted about persons under the age of 18 will be removed from our social media platforms. An exception is made for photos of Shelter events posted by Shelter staff where parental permission was given.
Any social media user who has been banned or had a message/content deleted may appeal this decision, in writing or email, to the Shelter’s Executive Director. The Executive Director may affirm or reverse the staff’s decision within 30 days of receiving the written appeal.
A staff member will be designated to monitor and maintain all Hoboken Shelter social media for content, structure, and updates.
All the policies and guidelines mentioned above apply to Instagram posts. The Shelter’s Instagram account will be monitored daily during regular operating hours. Content posted by users that violates the Shelter’s general social media policy will be removed, and the user will be banned from posting.
All the policies and guidelines mentioned above apply to Twitter posts. The Shelter will monitor Twitter daily during regular operating hours. The Shelter may decide to stop following a person on Twitter if they have violated the Shelter’s general social media policy.
All policies and guidelines apply to Facebook posts. The Shelter’s Facebook account will be monitored daily during regular operating hours. Content posted by users that violates the Shelter’s general social media policy can be removed and the user banned from posting. By choosing to comment and/or utilize the above sites, users of The Hoboken Shelter’s social media sites agree to these rules.
