Our Work
The Hoboken Shelter provides essential services that meet immediate needs and help move our neighbors toward stability and independence. From providing a warm meal and comforting shower, to a home to call their own, we are here to compassionately help our Guests when they need it most.

Hunger
Each day, our kitchen prepares and serves 500 nourishing meals to anyone who walks through our doors. From hot breakfasts and dinners to grab-and-go options, food at the Shelter is always served with respect and care. A warm meal can be the first step toward building trust and starting conversations about available Shelter services.
There are so many meaningful ways to help our hungry Guests. You can volunteer to cook and serve meals as an individual or with a group, celebrate a birthday or special occasion by sponsoring a dedicated meal event, assemble grab-and-go sandwich bags off-site and drop them off, or donate items from our most-needed kitchen donations list below.
Most-Needed Donations

Shelter
Our overnight Shelter provides a secure, welcoming place to rest for neighbors with nowhere else to go. Guests find warmth, stability, and compassionate care, especially during extreme weather. Here, people can rest, regroup, and begin working with our staff and case managers to plan their next steps toward stability.
Our Campaign for Housing Justice, a 100% donor-powered fund, helps eliminate the final barrier to homelessness by paying security deposits directly to the landlords of Guests we are working to house. In 2026, the average security deposit needed to help a Shelter Guest move into their own apartment is $1,500.00.
You can support our shelter programs by contributing to our Campaign for Housing Justice or by donating items from our Most-Needed Donations list below.

Housing
Through individualized case management, we help Guests move from homelessness to housing. Our team works closely with each person to overcome barriers, secure stable housing, and rebuild their lives.
Every eligible Guest is provided with step-by-step guidance on the work they need to do to become housed. This includes help gathering essential identification and documentation, accessing social service programs, connecting to medical and mental health options, and finding housing options that fit an individual’s needs and budget.
In 2025, 198 people transitioned from the streets to the Shelter and on to stable housing with the help of our staff.
Most-Needed Donations
Our Campaign for Housing Justice is a 100% donor-powered fund that helps pay a homeless Guest's security deposit directly to their prospective landlord, removing the final barrier to becoming housed.
In 2025, generous donors contributed $376,352 to our Campaign for Housing Justice fund. Your donation today can help support this program and other life-changing services offered at The Hoboken Shelter.
