Support Us
Here are all the ways you can help support our mission to end hunger and homelessness today.
Planned Giving / Bequests
A bequest is a gift made through your will or trust that allows you to support The Hoboken Shelter without impacting your assets during your lifetime. Unrestricted bequests are especially helpful, as they allow the Shelter to direct funds where they are most needed.
Ways to structure a bequest:
- A specific dollar amount
- Specific assets, such as publicly traded stock, securities, real estate, cryptocurrency, or personal property
- A percentage or all of the remaining estate after other obligations are met (residuary bequest)
- A contingent bequest, naming The Hoboken Shelter as a beneficiary if another beneficiary is unable to accept the gift
Tax benefits: Outright bequests to The Hoboken Shelter are fully deductible for estate tax purposes.
Already have a will? Your attorney can add The Hoboken Shelter as a beneficiary through a simple amendment called a codicil.
Designating your gift: If you wish to direct your fit to a specific purpose, we encourage you to speak with Shelter leadership in advance to ensure your wishes can be honored.
Other Planned Giving Options
You can also support The Hoboken Shelter through options including:
- Charitable gift annuities
- Charitable remainder unitrusts
- Charitable lead trusts
- IRA charitable rollover gifts
- Real estate gifts
We encourage you to talk with your financial advisor or attorney to determine which planned giving option best aligns with your goals. Your thoughtful planning can leave a lasting impact on neighbors in our community for years to come.
