Gary's Story
In February, a sudden separation left Gary without housing. With nowhere to go, he made the decision to come to The Hoboken Shelter and try to rebuild his life.
“It was a wake up call,” he shared. “I had to start all over. Just keep going forward.”

A Step Forward Every Day
Since arriving, Gary stayed focused on making positive steps every day. He maintained a daily routine, supported his children, and continued to pursue his creative goals. The poem above was written during one of the Shelter's weekly writing workshops.
After a month of hard work on Gary’s part, and with guidance from our staff, he moved into his own home this March.
