Job Description:        Development and Communications Specialist

Reports to:                 Development Manager/Director

Hours/Schedule:      10am-6pm M-F, On-Site, 40 Hours/Week, Full-Time,

with some Evenings/Weekends Meetings/Events

 

General Responsibilities:

● Uphold policies and procedures of The Hoboken Shelter.

● Maintain a personal current-events knowledge of homeless/hunger-related initiatives and contribute to media stories.

● Professionally handle confidential client, donor, volunteer, and financial information.  

● Effectively communicate and promote the accomplishments and material needs of the Shelter, so that donors and prospective donors have a full understanding of the needs of the organization.

● Provide direct administrative support to the Executive Director and Development Team, including participating in Committee/Department/Agency meetings where appropriate.

● Develop and deliver presentations to certain stakeholders as appropriate.

● Represent the organization professionally at appropriate public functions and fundraisers.

● Participate in Committee/Department/Agency Meetings, which may include taking Meeting Minutes, presenting reports, managing communication files, etc.

● Perform additional duties as required.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

● Serve as The Hoboken Shelter’s storyteller through images and messaging across all platforms: old and new media, social media, etc.

● Provide communications/marketing support for all of the Shelter’s fundraising efforts and donor cultivation, including but not limited to volunteer recognition and other stewardship opportunities.

● Maintain the organization’s fundraising events’ websites/platforms, including Spring Fundraiser, #HudsonGives, HoBOOken 5k, Annual Auction, etc.

● Maintain branding and messaging across the Shelter’s communication and events platforms.

● Manage the Shelter’s media presence for accuracy, relevancy, and timeliness.

● Assist with the development of the communication calendar, capturing proposed scheduling of social media posts, mass emails, and other related outreach activities, and strategically scheduling as necessary.

● Respond to emails, social media DM’s, and other inquiries or messages in a timely manner.

● Assist with the creation of Board reports and presentations to stakeholders where appropriate.

● Produce/create marketing and communications using graphic design principles and software, such as Canva or Adobe Illustrator, etc.

● Produce social media campaigns, including content development, and capture the metrics for each post.

● Produce/create marketing and communications approaches focusing on increased visibility and confirming a positive image in the community, including but not limited to social media, traditional media, and e-blasts.

● Stay up-to-date on web/social media market trends to develop strategies that incorporate innovation into the organization’s digital presence platforms.

● Create (write/design/layout/photos/images) Shelter newsletters (hard copy/digital), and other communications and mailings, such as events communications and Board of Trustee initiatives.

● Assist with the design of event-specific materials, including but not limited to invitations, flyers, posters, sponsorship forms, event signage, and ads for platform-specific use.

● Maintain marketing materials and press files, including photo releases.

● Curate and maintain a library of stock photos and pull quotes for use in Shelter communications.

● Support media projects, including press releases and announcements, highlighting the Shelter’s work in new (social) media and traditional outlets.

● Support a strong relationship with local, regional, and national media sources in order to promote the Shelter’s work and fundraising efforts regularly, including press releases, press kit mailings, press conferences, and story pitches to all outlets.

Salary:

$28/hour, which is $58,240 annualized
