Spring 2017 Newsletter

Dear Friends,

Hey, Hey, it’s our Birthday!!! We just turned 35!!! Let’s Celebrate!!!

Let’s celebrate the wonderful gift of you! Thanks to your generous support throughout our 35 years, we have grown from a small shelter helping a dozen homeless guests nightly in 1982 into a 24/7 community center that is creating permanent housing solutions in 2017 by sheltering 50 people nightly, serving 530 meals daily, providing 1,000 showers weekly, offering 2 skills-building workshops daily, and much more. We are truly honored to celebrate our 35th with you! Thank you for being the key to ending hunger and homelessness in our community!

Let’s celebrate how you are changing lives every day! Your donations truly make a difference. Thanks to your investment in our guests, you have given a hand-up to 1,000s of guests like Crystal, a successfully housed guest featured in our newsletter. Unfortunately, life took an unexpected turn for the worse and she suddenly became homeless in 2010. Thanks to you, we were able to provide her with safe shelter, warm meals, and hope to start again. With your support, we stood by her side giving her strength along her difficult journey to become housed again in 2011. Now the sky’s the limit for her! Thank you for putting the keys to her bright future in her hands.

Let’s celebrate our 35th together with a special 35th gift! A donation of $35 will sponsor 12 guests in our computer classes. A donation of $350 will sponsor 1 guest with safe shelter for an entire week. A donation of $3,500 will sponsor 4 guests moving into their own homes! Your investment in our guests truly helps them get back on their feet as they move from the streets to our Shelter to their own homes!

Thank you for celebrating this landmark year with us. Happy 35th!!!

Sincerely,

Jaclyn Cherubini, MPA Executive Director

The Hoboken Shelter Serves its Two Millionth Meal

Two Million Meals

The Hoboken Shelter was opened in 1982, and after 32 years of feeding the hungry and sheltering the homless, we celebrate a new milestone- our Two Millionth Meal!

Wednesday, October 8th marks the dinner when we will serve our Two Millionth meal to a hungry guest. The Chicken People, a volunteer group who has cooked a Chicken dinner for our guests once a month for over twenty years, will have the honor of serving our Two Millionth Meal.

We thank all of you for allowing us to feed the hungry by supporting us with your donations and by volunteering to cook and serve meals at the shelter.
